Nottingham residents fighting to keep PCSO’s

More than 21,000 residents in Nottinghamshire would be willing to pay more council tax in order to keep the county’s Police Community Support Officers.

Campaigners are handing over a petition of over 21,000 signatures to Police and Crime Commissioner, Paddy Tipping, in a bid to pay more council tax to keep PCSO’s.

There are currently 320 PCSO’s in Nottinghamshire. Cuts to the force mean 72 community supports officers are likely to lose their jobs to save around £2.8 million.

Unison, East Midlands, are calling for a referendum on whether to increase council tax by £5 instead of making the cuts.

They think losing the officers would have a devastating impact on the communities of Nottingham.

Nottingham Police Crime Commissioner, Paddy Tipping stated that he knows the value of PCSO’s and he will treat the people who have signed the petition with respect.
