Nottingham Trent University set to welcome Cerebral Palsy World Games

With days to go to the start of the Nottingham 2015 CPISRA World Games, Nottingham Trent University is poised to welcome athletes from around the world.

The Cerebral Palsy International Sports and Recreation Association (CPISRA) 2015 World Games are taking place between 6-16 August and the University’s City site will be transformed into the Games’ Athletes Village providing a base, accommodation and catering facilities for competitors, organisers and officials.

In addition, the University is sponsoring the Spirit of the Games trophies and the Games Athletes Village will be the venue for the presentation of medals.

The University’s Clifton campus, which is currently undergoing a multi-million pound transformation, is providing accommodation for the family and friends of competitors, and is also the site of the Volunteer Village, providing accommodation and catering for the 200 volunteers.

Participants from as far afield as Australia, Brazil and Russia will be taking part in a range of sports including athletics, bowls, the first-ever under-19 football championship and swimming.

Professor Edward Peck, Vice-Chancellor of Nottingham Trent University, said: “This is an exciting time in the University’s calendar and we are looking forward to welcoming competitors, coaches, organisers and officials, along with friends and family and volunteers from around the world, to these two campuses.

“The Games provide us with an ideal opportunity to showcase the wonderful facilities we have at the university, which we hope will contribute towards making the event a truly positive experience for everyone involved.”

In total, nearly 400 athletes and team coaches from 13 countries across the world will be arriving in Nottingham for the Games along with hundreds of officials, volunteers and friends and family.

The opening ceremony will be held on 9 August at Harvey Hadden Sports Complex and the closing ceremony will take place at the same venue on 15 August.
