Nottingham’s last traditional paddling pool ‘at risk’

Video: Concerns raised about Nottingham’s last paddling pool

Nottingham’s last traditional paddling pool is at risk according to campaign group Friends of Victoria Embankment.

The group says that maintenance is needed to keep the pool in a good condition and is concerned about the pool being lost to redevelopment work.

Nottingham City Council have said that there are no short term plans to alter the pool but it could be included as part of a long term redevelopment of Victoria Embankment with plans being discussed.

There are cracks and areas where it needs maintenance

Chairman of Friends of Victoria Embankment Jonathan Hughes said: “Local people and park users are desperate to keep the traditional paddling pool.

“Unfortunately, when this paddling pool is ever due to open, there’s usually a problem with it.

“There are cracks and there are areas where it needs maintenance and even this year it had to be close for a little while so that repair work could take place.”

It just adds that extra thing

Mr Hughes’ concerns are shared by people who take their kids to the paddling pool.

A mother who takes her kids to the paddling pool, Leanne Edmiston, said: “The paddling pool just adds that extra thing so that you can make more of a day of it.

“If it wasn’t here, it would be the equivalent of just being another park and although it’s a good park, it just really adds to it.”
