Nottingham’s official Robin Hood says he has been left ‘overwhelmed’ by tributes from friends and fans after his wife died from breast cancer.
Tim Pollard, who has played the famous outlaw for more than two decades, confirmed wife Sally had died on Friday.
Mrs Pollard had played Maid Marian by Tim’s side after the couple met through their interest in re-enactments.
The couple married in Derbyshire in September last year and have a three-year-old daughter, Scarlett.
“Thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone who has sent such wonderful messages of love and support to me and Sal’s family,” Mr Pollard wrote on Facebook.
“We’ve genuinely been overwhelmed by your kindness – it’s amazing, inspiring and deeply comforting to know how much Sal meant to everyone and how she’ll live on in your hearts, thoughts and fond stories. Thank you.”
Mrs Pollard, formerly Sally Chappell, continued working as a lecturer and researcher in human molecular genetics at the University of Nottingham and as Maid Marian after being diagnosed.

Hundreds of people have already posted messages of support to Mr Pollard and his family on social media.
Announcing the news on Friday Mr Pollard had said: “Please raise a glass and a smile to the most wonderful person I have ever met; a great woman, mother, daughter, sister, friend, teacher, scientist, colleague and wife. And the perfect Maid Marian.
“I will love and miss her forever, as will we all. Thank you all for your love, friendship and support, we both appreciated it hugely.”
