Nottinghamshire captain Chris Read and ex Notts and England bowler Graeme Swann are to feature in a charity Pro-Am cricket match.
The match is set to take place on Tuesday 1st September at Radcliffe-on-Trent CC with the proceeds going to the NSPCC and Bowel Cancer UK (BCUK).
The evening will begin with a youth coaching session led by the professional players, which organiser Louise Read, wife of Chris Read, believes is a great opportunity to get new players into the sport.
“I think it’s really important to get more young people playing and this is a great opportunity. It’s really important to get them in at a young age.”
-Louise Reed, organiser of the event.
“Our son Tyler plays for the Kwik cricket team at Radcliffe-on-Trent, which is why we are holding it there.”
The match itself will begin at 5pm. The remaining spots for the two teams will be made up of the highest bidders. A minimum donation of £200 is required.
This is the 4th time the Read family have set up an event like this and Louise hopes to raise a substantial amount of money again for the charities.
“We are hoping to raise at least £5,000. Both charities are close to our hearts. Chris’ old cricket coach back in Devon died a few years ago of bowel cancer so it is something close to him.”
After the game, Graeme Swann’s band, Dr. Comfort and the Lurid Revelations, will be performing in front of the pavilion at the ground.
she said: “Swanny’s band are good as long as he doesn’t sing! But seriously, they are really good.”
