Nottinghamshire offers support to France after Paris terror attacks

paris, terror, attacks

People across Nottinghamshire have offered thoughts, prayers, and support to France in the wake of terror attacks which left more than 100 people dead.

Dozens took to social media on Friday and Saturday to express their shock at the atrocity.

The Becket School, in West Bridgford, has cancelled a planned trip to the French capital.

A statement on the school website read: “Due to today’s tragic events in Paris we have taken the decision to cancel the school’s trip to Paris.

“All students affected will shortly receive contact from a member of staff who will provide further information.”

It’s currently believed at least 120 people were killed in the co-ordinated gun and bomb attacks on Friday night.

Eighty died when gunmen burst into the Bataclan concert hall during a rock concert and shot hostages before French police stormed the building.

Five other sites were targeted, including restaurants and bars and the Stade de France football stadium, where the hosts were playing Germany.

Vasiliki Scurfield, mother of Konstandinos Erik Scurfield, the former Nottingham student killed fighting Islamic State in Syria in March, offered her thoughts to the families of those killed.

And Nottingham East MP Chris Leslie described the night’s events as ‘horrific’.

A state of emergency has been declared in France and restrictions have been placed on its borders.

Eight gunmen and suicide bombers are believed to have been involved.

Broxtowe MP Anna Soubry said she hoped the world would unite to defy terror.

And Nottinghamshire County Council leader Alan Rhodes also offered his thoughts.
