The end of Nottinghamshire’s Toys R Us network has edged closer after the company closed down its distribution centre.
Administrators Moorfields Advisory announced the centre in Coventry is shutting on Wednesday (March 21), paving the way for more stores to close.
The company, which collapsed into administration last month, has large stores at Riverside Retail Park in Nottingham and St Peter’s Retail Park in Mansfield, and a shop in the Victoria Centre in Nottingham.
Moorfields said on Wednesday these outlets will close in “five to six weeks”. More than 20 other stores around the country have already closed.
Discounts of up to 40 per cent are now on offer for some toys in some stores, as the company looks sell off its huge pool of stock.
Simon Thomas, joint administrator and partner at Moorfields, said: “It is with great regret that we have made the difficult decision to make 98 people redundant at the Company’s Distribution Centre in Coventry.
“After it became clear that we would not be able to secure a buyer for the business, one of the major initial tasks was to transfer all of the remaining stock to the stores. With this now complete, we have been required to wind down operations at the Distribution Centre.
“We are grateful for the hard work of Toys R Us staff during this very difficult period. We are working closely with employees affected by the closure of the distribution centre to ensure they receive the support they need to assist with their claims for redundancy and other compensatory payments.”
