Nottinghamshire villagers to receive text message alerts from police

phone, text message,

People living in rural Nottinghamshire communities will get text messages from police in a bid to tackle crime.

Residents from Bassetlaw, Newark and Sherwood can receive breaking news, information and appeals straight from local officers.

The pilot scheme has been launched this month in a bid to improve communication with smaller villages and towns where people can struggle to access online information.

Nottinghamshire Police and Crime Commissioner, Paddy Tipping, said: “This new text messaging service will allow Nottinghamshire Police to share information with thousands of local people at the click of a button, bringing officers closer to the communities they serve and improving how they let local people know about the work being done to tackle rural crime in their area.”

The scheme is being ran by VISAV a Nottingham-based company who specialise in community messaging systems.

People can register to receive free email and text message alerts from Nottinghamshire Police by visiting www.nottinghamshire.police.uk/alert.
