A Nottinghamshire cat had its tail pulled so hard it had to be put down by a vet.

The two-year-old white and tortoiseshell female was found by her owner with serious injuries after she went missing for 14 hours from her home in Langold.

The owner immediately took her to a vet, who discovered serious injuries to her face and spine.

RSPCA inspector Keith Ellis, who is investigating, said: “The vet stated that the injuries were very likely because her tail had been yanked very hard.

“This damaged the cat’s nerves, which prevented the cat from emptying her bladder and her injuries were so serious that the vet advised she be put to sleep to prevent further suffering.

“The cat would have suffered a great deal of pain and it is very important that we find out what happened to her, as it is likely that this was not an accident.”

He added the cat is thought to have been attacked while she was missing from her home on Riddell Avenue, between 8am and 10pm on Saturday, May 21.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the RSPCA 0300 123 8018.
