Gold-medal winning Mansfield swimmer Rebecca Adlington and her husband Harry Needs have announced they are separating.
The couple married 18 months ago in Staffordshire and had a daughter, Summer, in June last year.
Adlington, 27, and Needs, 24, announced the news in a statement on Rebecca’s website.
“It’s after much thought and sadness that we confirm our separation,” it read.
“It is on amicable terms and we still remain close friends.
“We move forward with respect for one another and our focus and commitment is on parenting our gorgeous daughter Summer. This will be our only comment on this private matter.”

The swimmer, who retired from competition in 2013, has recently been nursing a dislocated shoulder after injuring herself on Channel 4’s ‘The Jump’.
Needs is also a former swimmer who narrowly missed out on qualifying for London 2012 and now runs a personal training business.
