The Nottingham Light Night festival will transform the city again on Friday with free entertainment and cultural displays.

Organisers at Nottingham City Council have enlisted the support of more than 50 businesses and performers to put on the event, now in its ninth year.

Sharon Scaniglia, Principal Arts Officer for Nottingham City Council spoke at last year’s event.

She said: “It’s a night that brings many people into the city to see lots of different things and have a cultural experience.”

Tens of thousands of people are expected to travel into the city for the event, so families are being urged to plan ahead to avoid traffic congestion.

 Ligh Night 2016: What can you look forward to this year?

  • The grounds of Nottingham Castle and Brewhouse Yard will be illuminated where you can visit the latest exhibitions.
  • Live music is also on the cards with lots of local choirs and bands performing.
  • The Star Wars fans among you can channel your inner-jedi with lightsaber fights.

Light Night will also be benefiting from the Nottingham’s ‘City of Football’ status with football freestyler Dan Magness taking to the streets to wow local folks with his skills.

And anyone who fanices getting a team together can even try out light-up 5-a-side football.

There is a warning to road users from Nottingham City Council who say High Pavement will be closed to traffic.
