Notts Outlaws play Leicestershire Foxes in final group game

Video: Mick Newell speaks about the importance of keeping up the winning momentum

Top play bottom in Notts Outlaws’ final Natwest T20 Blast group game against Leicestershire Foxes at Trent Bridge tonight.

The home team will be looking to top the north group table after having already secured a home quarter final draw.

The Outlaws will play the fourth placed finisher in the South Group if they top the table with their opponents likely to be Middlesex or Essex Eagles.

Surrey and Kent Spitfires have an outside chance of snatching fourth.

Everything has run quite smoothly

Notts director of cricket Mick Newell said: “Our performance tonight needs to be spot on and in shape for that quarter final that’s coming up.

“Since we lost the first couple of games, everything has run quite smoothly.

“If you get into a nice rhythm of playing and playing some good cricket then that can only stand us in good stead.”

If the Outlaws lose their match tonight and the Northamptonshire Steelbacks win at home to Yorkshire Vikings and finish with a better net run rate in the table, Notts will finish second.

This will see them play either Middlesex or Essex Eagles at Trent Bridge.

However the Outlaws come into the game unbeaten in 11 after having started the season slowly with two losses.

In their last match, Notts won by six wickets away at Birmingham Bears thanks to an unbeaten half century from Greg Smith.

Leicestershire are playing for pride after also playing Birmingham Bears away in their last outing.

The Foxes lost by 28 runs at Edgbaston which moved the Bears into fourth place with 13 points which is an unassailable target for Leicestershire on ten.

If results go their way and Leicestershire win they could finish as high as fifth.
