Mapperley Park Medical Centre was first put into special measures in June 2015.

Inspectors have revealed details of what led to the closure of a Nottingham GP surgery.

Mapperley Park Medical Centre shut in September after the Care Quality Commission carried out a follow-up to an inspection it had done in June, which rated it ‘inadequate’.

The commission has now made public its findings from September.

It says inspectors still had concerns over the speed of referrals, a lack of action on medicine safety alerts issued, and staff induction and training.

Professor Steve Field, chief inspector of General Practice for the commission, wrote: “This practice remains in special measures and urgent enforcement action has been taken to protect the safety and welfare of people using this service.”

The report adds at the time the registration of Dr Mark Stevens, the practice provider, was suspended for three months.

However, this is due to expire tomorrow – Wednesday December 7.

The surgery had around 2,320 patients registered across Mapperley Park and St Ann’s, who were referred to two other surgeries.
