Residents will be able to return home two days after a fire broke out in a Newark block of flats later today (Friday November 25).
A blaze that broke out in a cavity wall was accidental and involved electrics, Notts Fire and Rescue Service have said.
Fire crews from Nottingham and Lincolnshire were called to the incident at 12.15pm on Wednesday (November 23) and extinguished the blaze yesterday (November 24).
The fire service conducted an investigation alongside Notts Police to determine the cause of the fire and concluded that it was accidental.
John Franks, a member of the Lover’s Lane Tenants’ Association has told Notts TV News that the remaining fire crews left the site last night and residents are preparing to return to their homes.
He said: “Everybody who was evacuated should be back home today (November 25) apart from those living in the two damaged flats.
“They won’t be back for many months as there was a lot of damage to the cavity walls.
“The fire was extinguished yesterday with Newark and Sherwood homes now at the block of flats doing health and safety checks.”

Incident Commander Bryn Coleman attended the fire and has stressed the importance of leaving doors closed at night.
He said: “The room has been totally involved in fire but fortunately for the occupier the door was closed.
“This is a graphic illustration of the benefits of closing your doors, especially at night to ensure you can safely get out of the property.”
