Rooftop cider display wows the people of Gotham

A shop in Gotham is the talk of the village after unveiling a rooftop display made out of 215 used cans of cider for a national competition.

SPAR, located on Nottingham Road in Gotham, South Nottinghamshire is owned and operated by Jane Samson and her partner Alan Towle.

After the store’s wholesalers ‘SPAR’ launched a national competition to promote cider, Jane and Alan realised their shop was way too small for an indoor display.

Alan, who is also a builder, then had the idea to create the rooftop feature and started asking Gotham villagers to donate their empty cider cans.

The sign is 16 feet by 4 and will be up all throughout the summer.

When asked what sort of reactions the display has been getting, Jane said: “Mainly people are laughing, which is lovely.

People are walking by or driving by and they’re smiling and making funny comments and that makes it all worth it.

Jane’s passion for the sign was echoed by Gotham villagers.

Judges will come to view the display some time in July but Jane and Alan believe they have a good chance because of how unique their sign is and because it has improved their cider sales.
