Figures released by Nottinghamshire Police show that six sex offenders are missing across the county.

Registered sex offenders are required to inform police of their addresses so that they can be monitored.

According to records of 39 police forces across the country the whereabouts of 394 sex offenders are unknown.

Nottinghamshire Police was ninth on the list, alongside Warwickshire Police, West Mercia Police, Avon and Somerset Police and Derbyshire Constabulary.

The figures came to light after a Freedom of Information Request was put in by the news agency, the Press Association, to police forces about missing sex offenders.

A Home Office spokeswoman said: “The UK has some of the toughest powers in the world to deal with sex offenders and we are committed to ensuring the system is as robust as possible.”
