The woman was approached by the boy asking for money in order to get home and when she pulled out her purse, he snatched it and ran.
The robbery happened on Mona Road, West Bridgford at around 11:30am on December 3. The purse contained only a small amount in coins.
Don’t put yourself at risk of injury
Rushcliffe Neighbourhood Policing Inspector, Craig Berry, says, “When you are withdrawing or carrying cash or valuables, always try to be aware of who is around you. Unfortunately, on very rare and isolated occasions, there may be an opportunist thief around. Don’t make it easy for them but do not put yourself at risk of injury.”
“The best approach is to make it too difficult for somebody to steal from you, though in most circumstances it is best not to fight back as your safety is paramount.”
Police’s top personal safety advice:
- Don’t keep all your items in the same place
- Put cash and personal belongings in different pockets and bags with zip fastenings
- Use a personal safety alarm or purse bells, available from the Neighbourhood Policing Team or Rushcliffe Borough Council
- Allow someone to take something from you, rather than risk confrontation or injury
