Tributes have been paid to a Nottingham man who died after falling down a gulley while walking in Snowdonia.

Neil Parnell, 52, was walking near Bristly Ridge, on Glyder Fach, in the Ogwen Valley on Saturday when he fell and died.

His body was found by North Wales’s Rescue 936 search and rescue helicopter.

A post-mortem examination into his death revealed Mr Parnell suffered a “medical episode”, believed to be a heart attack, immediately before he fell.

After he was named, several people posted tributes on Facebook to the 52-year-old, who was a mountaineer and well-known to several Nottingham charities.

Mariyam Yaseen wrote on Facebook: “There are some truly remarkable people and it’s such a shame to say we lost someone who not only was so close to our family but has been an important figure within our community.

“He was one of the most intelligent people I have ever met and as my dad always said, he was so good at everything he did. He died in a beautiful place doing what he loved with his best friend.”

Maria Reiach posted: “Neil was a fantastic man, an inspiration to many young people, with the kindest of hearts. I am proud to say I knew and worked with him. Such a very sad loss.”
