Unemployment in Nottingham falls by 20 per cent

Unemployment in Nottingham has fallen by 20 per cent in the space of a year, latest figures show.

The Government figures show Nottingham city and surrounding areas are seeing a big increase in people getting back to work.

Nottingham Jobs Hubs manager, Andy Madeley said younger people in particular were finding more work, with even bigger falls in joblessness among 18 to 24 year-olds.

He said: “There are twenty three per cent less people in this age group claiming benefits, which will help the local area.

“We’ve got fantastic results across the East Midlands, with 2.3 million back in employment.”

He added a growth of new businesses in Nottingham was also contributing to the improved figures.

An increase in apprenticeships are also thought to be playing a part, helping young people get paid experience in a work place, while learning specific skills towards a qualification.
