Notts Tonight’s Iain Chambers has been taught by a member of the cast of musical Rent how to dance in part of one of their routines.

Rent is a rock musical about a group of young artists struggling to survive in New York City in the thriving days of Bohemian excess along with stories of love.

Celebrating its 20th anniversary, it’s currently touring the UK and is stopping off at the Nottingham Playhouse until Saturday (May 20).

Javar La’trail Parker, who plays Benjamin Coffin III in the musical, said: “A new generation is discovering the awesomeness of this musical.

“The story tells of love, it tells of living in New York City, big city life, the struggles of being an artist which I think is relevant as a lot of kids especially nowadays have dreams of becoming TV or reality stars.

“It’s the same story but it’s for a new generation.”

Billy Cullum, who plays Mark Cohen in the musical, said: “It’s a very aspirational musical from the characters’ point of view.

“For example my character wants to be a film director, Roger my flatmate wants to be a successful songwriter.

“The musical is relevant now though because embracing life and living without fear is brought to the audience.
