A rare Stanley steam car which has been kept chugging along by a family in Nottinghamshire for nearly 90 years is being sold to another Notts owner.

Richard Granger from Attenborough currently owns the car but is selling one of the few models left in the UK to Frank Tyler from Sutton-in-Ashfield.

Current owner of the car Richard said: “It used to belong to a doctor in Sutton-in-Ashfield whose maid apparently used to get his car up to steam in the morning!

“After he finished using it, it was found by a father and friend of his in 1930 who bought the car, did it up and got it running.

“They paid 30 shillings for the thing and the father bought the other share of the car in 1934 for 15 shillings and it has been in the family ever since.”

The car’s new owner, Frank Tyler, has followed the life of it since he was a child when his dad told him stories about the local doctor and his steam car.

It wasn’t until his dad suprised him for his birthday he got to see the car he was told so much about.

Frank said: “Richard turned up at the house and greeted us and there was a steam car – he started telling me the history of it and said it was owned by a doctor.

“Fast forward nine years and Richard said it was for sale so I said right I’ll have it!”
