A group of students at a junior school in Nottinghamshire have been racing their rockets cars with speeds reaching 50mph.

Students at Carlton Central Juniors have today (Wednesday June 6) been racing their cars as part of the Model Rocket Challenge.

The challenge is part of the Bloodhound Education Programme aiming to inspire kids across the country and discover future scientists and engineers.

DT teacher at Redhill academy Lee Phillips said: “There’s a massive shortage of engineers in this country so the young budding engineers here is what this whole programme is about.

“They were all given the same components, which were a block of foam, four wheels, two steel axels and some pegs which strap it down to the track.

“They then have to make sure they make it as aerodynamic as possible.”
