Forecasters lifted – then re-issued – a yellow weather warning for fog across Nottinghamshire on Monday.
Forecasters say the main problems were through the Monday morning rush hour, although East Midlands Airport avoided a rash of cancellations which affected other airports.
The warning was lifted by 11am, but returned again in the afternoon as more heavy fog is expected across Monday night and Tuesday morning.
A Met Office spokesman said: “The main problems would appear to be more likely through the Monday morning rush hour.
“Areas of dense and freezing fog may lead to journeys taking longer than usual.”

Monday evening is expected to see freezing fog descend again, which could become widespread and locally dense, leading into an early frost and the possibility of widespread fog again on Tuesday morning.
A yellow warning means people are advised to ‘be aware’ of the risk. A yellow warning is the third most serious issued by the Met Office after red ‘take action’ warnings and amber ‘be prepared’ warnings.
Yellow means people should “plan ahead thinking about possible travel delays, or the disruption of your day to day activities”.
