Forest Fields stabbing victim named as Aqib Mazhar

A man in his twenties has died after being stabbed in Forest Fields.

Police were called at around 8.35pm on Wednesday to Russell Road following a report of a serious assault.

They found the man with a serious knife injury and he was taken to the Queen’s Medical Centre, where he later died.

He has been named locally asĀ Aqib Mazhar, with dozens of tributes left on social media.

Jamia Masjid Sultania mosque, Sneinton Dale, announced news of his death in a post on its Facebook page.

It read: “Brother Aqib Mazhar has sadly passed away last night after a incident in Forest Fields. Please make dua (prayers) for his soul and for his family.”

Nottingham Islam Information Point also posted on Facebook: “Our prayers go out to Aqib Mazhar from Forest Fields who passed away last night after being attacked on Russell Road with a knife. May Allah make it easy on his family during this difficult time.”

 


Police have cordoned off the street and are examining the scene.

Broken glass can be seen on part of theĀ road, which is closed off at both ends.

Officers are expected to release further details in a press conference later today.
