Nottingham rugby club will hold its first ever beer festival this weekend to mark the penultimate round of the Six Nations Championship.

The three-day event will be the first hosted at the club since it moved to its new ground in Lady Bay, West Bridgford, in 2015.

Entry is free and a wide range of ales, lagers, craft beers and other drinks from independent local breweries will be available from £1.50 for half a pint.

Doors will then reopen at 1pm on Saturday for the Italy vs France and England vs Scotland matches.

Commemorative beer glasses, provided by sponsors FHP Living and Greene King brewery, will be available to buy for £2 each.

Club marketing officer, Simon Ball-McQueen, said: “We have been at the ground for just over two years now and have a fully-installed event marquee on site, so combined with the Six Nations Championship, holding a beer festival here was a no-brainer.

“We’ve never hosted one before but have already had a lot of interest. We’re expecting a few hundred people – perhaps even a thousand.

“There’s a good chance a few players will be knocking about as they don’t have a game this weekend.

“We’ve asked some local businesses to sponsor a barrel each for £100. We wouldn’t have been able to do it without the help from our sponsors.”
