Aitor Karanka has left his job as manager of Nottingham Forest.
The Spaniard departed the City Ground on Friday morning after a year in the position. The Reds currently sit seventh in the Championship table.
The club said he had asked to go and the departure had been agreed amicably.
A club statement released on Friday morning read: “Aitor Karanka has asked to be released from his contract as the manager of Nottingham Forest Football Club.
“The club have agreed to this request and the terms of departure have been agreed. Both parties wish each other every success for the future.
“There will be no further comment from either party.
“Simon Ireland will take charge of first-team affairs until a new manager is appointed.”
Karanka’s last game in charge was Saturday’s FA Cup defeat by Chelsea, having beaten league leaders Leeds the week before.
The news follows days of intense speculation about the 45-year-old’s future at the City Ground.
