Nottingham primary school forced to close because of metal thieves

St Augustines Catholic Primary School in Mapperley, has been forced to close after copper piping was stolen from the building by thieves.

Pupils at St Augstines Primary School have had an unexpected few days off, following metres of metal piping being stolen from a water tank on the schools roof on Monday night.

Caroline Caille, Headteacher at the St Augustines primary school said: “It looks like someone has got on top of the roof and onto the tank room during the night.”

There has been metres of copper pipe stolen. The way that they have pulled it has caused further damage which means we cant open the school tomorrow.

St Augustines hopes to reopen as soon as possible after repairs, however it is currently shut due to toilet facilities and water being out of use.

This is not the first time that thieves have stolen metal from the school.

Police will be checking CCTV footage from around the area and the school will be increasing its security once it is clear how the thieves got onto the roof.

Headteacher Caroline Callie said: “Its a nightmare for parents to be able to get care for their children at such short notice. The parents have been very lovely and understanding of the situation for which I apologise for.”

Text messages have been sent to parents informing them of the closure and will be updated if there is any further delays.
