Nottingham Forest midfielder Andy Reid will be assisting Paul Williams with coaching the club for the rest of the season – and  pledged to bring attacking football back to the City Ground.

Forest yesterday sacked Dougie Freedman as manager and immediately appointed Williams as interim manager until the end of the season.

Nigel Pearson is the current favourite to take over full-time but any appointment is unlikely to take place until the summer.

Some fans have not been happy with a lack of entertaining football on show with Freedman in charge, something Reid wants to address.

It’s a results-driven business

The Irishman said: “It’ll be good to have a go between now and the end of the season. We need to create more chances, get more players in the box and score more goals.

“If we’re able to have a bit more energy, a bit more pressing and be a bit more attack-minded then I’m pretty sure we can pick up some wins.”

Reid was keen to tell the Forest fans that ‘the grass is not always greener’ and that Freedman’s expectations for the team were not too far off.

“I think they were probably about right to be honest. It was difficult and I think Freedman realised that. Fans and players, pretty much everybody realised that it was going to be a difficult season but having said that there are expectations at this football club and they have to be met.

“It’s never nice when someone loses their job but it’s a results-driven business,” added Reid.

Nottingham Forest travel to third-place Hull City tomorrow night and will be looking for a good result ahead of Saturday’s eagerly anticipated clash with local rivals Derby County.
