Some of the brightest business minds in Nottinghamshire will be picked out at an awards ceremony honouring boardroom excellence.

The Institute of Directors is running its annual East Midlands Director of the Year awards – seen as among the highest accolades in business across the region.

Applicants from Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire and Nottinghamshire have until 15 April to enter.

Winners of the coveted regional awards go on to the institute’s national awards.

Ron Lynch, the institute’s regional director, said: “The awards celebrate the achievements of the region’s most hard-working and innovative business leaders and are open to both our members and non-members of director level or equivalent status.

“What makes it different is we don’t just look at the company – we look at the contribution individual directors make.

“We look for someone who has made a difference – in terms of where their business was compared to where it is now.”

Mr Lynch added: “The future is bright for business in Nottingham – with two universities and good colleges we’ve always got good talent.

“The challenge is to retain that talent – people can move to London or return to where they grew up. Long-term we need to work to retain them.”

A panel of judges will draw up a shortlist for the regional competition and the winners will be revealed at the East Midlands Director of the Year Awards 2016 presentation lunch at Nottingham Conference Centre, Nottingham Trent University, on Thursday, June 30.

The national Director of the Year awards will be made on 21 October at the Lancaster London Hotel.
