Bilborough College has been graded as “requires improvement” after an inspection was carried out by Ofsted in January.
The report says that “not enough teaching is good or better” and that pupils are not being challenged enough for them to fulfil their potential.
However the report did say that classes are well attended and that all staff foster an “inclusive and welcoming” environment where students benefit from good advice and guidance to meet their goals.
Principal of the College, Christopher Bradford said: “We were of course disappointed but not surprised by the result of the inspection.”

“We have a pretty good grasp of our strengths and weaknesses at the college and we took steps at the start of the year to put things in place to combat this.”
The college rated “good” in Science but needed improvement in a number of subjects including Social Sciences and English. whilst Mathematics and Statistics was rated as “inadequate”.
He added: “We feel quite confident because we know what needs to change and we’re working as a team to make sure we can get it absolutely right for all our students”
