Body found in River Wear believed to be that of Euan Coulthard

Police have confirmed that the body found in the River Wear is believed to be that of Euan Coulthard.

The 19-year-old student from Bottesford, 20 miles east of Nottingham had been out for meal with friends in Durham, before heading to Loveshack nightclub, when he went missing over a week ago.

CCTV then appears to show Euan, who studies law at St Mary’s College, walking through the city centre and crossing Framwellgate Bridge before heading down towards the river and Bishop Langley pub.

Durham Constabulary have said that they, and specialist marine diving units, attended the river after reports of a body being spotted. Formal identification on the body is yet to be carried out.

Police, students and friends have been searching the city centre following his disappearance and a petition has been launched to improve riverbank safety.

Two other students from Durham University, Sope Peters and Luke Pearce, have drowned in the river over the last 15 months after nights out.
