British number one Johanna Konta has confirmed she will play at the Aegon Open Nottingham for the third year in a row.
The British star will play the tournament that makes part of British tennis’ grass-court season as part of her warm up for Wimbledon.
A successful 12 months of tennis has seen Konta break into the world’s top 10 and secure two WTA singles titles.
The 25-year-old has urged tennis fans to turn out in force in Nottingham and cheer her on as she looks to build on a good start to 2017, which saw her lift the Sydney International title before going on to reach the Australian Open quarter finals.
Konta will also appear at the Aegon Classic Birmingham and the Aegon International Eastbourne.
She said: “Playing in front of a passionate home crowd that is fully behind you is a special experience that not many players get, I know how lucky I am to be able to do that.
“Tournaments like Nottingham, Birmingham and Eastbourne have such an incredible history, you just need to look at the roll of honour to see that, and you can sense that when you step on court.
“With the recent commitment to a bigger and better series hopefully this great tradition will continue for many years to come.”
Konta suffered an early loss at last years Nottingham Open but fared better at the 2015 open, recording her first top 100 win of the year to reach the quarter finals.
The LTA’s (Lawn Tennis Association) director of major events Oliver Scadgell said: “The 2017 pre-Wimbledon British grass court season is shaping up to be our best yet.
“Fans and players alike will experience significant improvements with new look events in Nottingham and Eastbourne.”
