The Capital FM Arena, Nottingham’s premier entertainment venue has announced that as of January 2016, it will be changing its name to ‘The Motorpoint Arena Nottingham’.

The 10,000 capacity venue, which serves as home to the Nottingham Panthers Ice Hockey team has been sponsored by Capital FM for the past five years and will be missed by staff at the arena.

Sharon Lordan, Marketing and Sales Director for Nottingham Arena said: “We’ve thoroughly enjoyed working with Capital FM over the past five years and would like to thank them for the fantastic support they have given the Arena during that time.

“Similar to how we’ve worked with Capital FM, when selecting our new naming rights partner it was important we identified another company with a desire to do more than simply have their name above our door.

We’re extremely confident Motorpoint’s positive approach to sponsorship around the UK will enable us to develop an effective, mutually beneficial relationship which all successful partnerships need.”

Sharon said it was Motorpoint’s work at other sporting and music venues that impressed them the most.

The car retailers already have naming rights over Cardiff and Sheffield but the agreement with the latter runs out at the end of July, something Panthers fans will be glad to hear due to their bitter rivalry with the Sheffield Steelers.

The Arena, which brings in over 700,000 visitors per year, will continue to operate as the Capital FM Arena until December 31 2015 at which point the venue will be fully re-branded as the ‘Motorpoint Arena Nottingham’.
