Carl Froch to induct Forest’s European Cup-winning team into Football Hall of Fame

Boxing hero Carl Froch will induct Nottingham Forest’s two-time European Cup-winning heroes into the National Football Museum Hall of Fame.

The event is planned for Nottingham Arena on Thursday, November 3, and the Cobra will be a guest of honour and feature in a question and answer session.

Forest fan Froch, a four-time super middleweight champion, said: “This is a huge honour for me and I will be proud to stand on stage with the biggest football legends Nottingham Forest have produced.”

The Reds won two European Cups, in 1979 and 1980, under legendary manager Brian Clough.

Colwick-born Froch said: “I was only very young when the Miracle Men won back-to-back European Cups, but they have provided the inspiration for a generation and helped put Nottingham on the map in the sporting world.

“I am immensely proud to be a Nottingham Forest fan and to present them with this award will make a very special night.”

The story of Forest’s ‘Miracle Men’ team has already appeared in a documentary film.

Only a handful of clubs, players or teams are inducted each year and more than 3,000 football fans and enthusiasts are expected to attend.

It was revealed earlier this year that Forest’s legendary side had made it in to the museum, which is in Manchester.

Notts County – the World’s Oldest Fotball League club – are also being honoured with a place.

The former WBC, IBF and WBA champ Froch had an illustrious career in the ring, with some of his best fights taking place at the arena – including a thrilling victory over Lucian Bute in 2012.

Leader of Nottingham City Council, Jon Collins, said: “We are delighted that Carl Froch, Freeman of the City, will join us for the Hall of Fame heroes event and present this award to Nottingham Forest.”

He added: “Carl is a huge part of Nottingham’s proud sporting heritage and it will be fantastic for his fans to see him back in the big arena – even if it is without the gloves on.”

Tickets for the event are on sale at £10 for adults and £5 for children.
