Nottingham Forest’s European Cup winners and Notts County are to be inducted into the National Football Museum Hall of Fame.

The players and team were chosen by a selection panel led by the museum president Sir Bobby Charlton.

Only a handful of clubs, players or teams are inducted each year.

The induction will take place at a gala event on Thursday, November 3, at The Motorpoint Arena with more than 3,000 football fans and enthusiasts expected to attend.

It’s an incredible honour

Nottingham Forest’s double-European Cup winning captain John McGovern said: “It’s an incredible honour for us.”

Notts County’s record goalscorer Les Bradd said: “Notts County has a very special place in the world of football and we are thrilled to be given such an accolade on what will undoubtedly be a very special night for football in the city.”

Managing Director of Nottingham City of Football Amanda Chambers said: “This will be a fantastic event to celebrate everything that is great about football in Nottingham, both on and off the field, across all generations, backgrounds and abilities.”

Participation in football across Nottingham is at an all-time high

The event is being hosted by Nottingham City Council and its leader Jon Collins is looking forward to what this can bring to the future of football in Nottingham.

He said: “We have a proud history of sport, and in particular football, in the city and for both clubs to be recognised in the Hall of Fame is testament to Nottingham as a whole.

“As well as celebrating the rich history of football in Nottingham it is also a time to be excited about the future of football as our status as the City of Football suggests.

“Participation in football across Nottingham is at an all-time high and the City of Football project continues to break down barriers and get more people involved in the beautiful game.”
