Council to clamp down on ‘rip off’ taxis

Gedling Borough Council are insisting that they are doing all they can to avoid taxi riders from being ‘ripped off’.

The action from the Council is in light of a video of a women being charged £33.26 for a 4 mile journey going viral.

Councillor John Clarke, Leader of the Gedling Borough Council said: “If we find people breaking the rules that they were given their licence on, we will immediately take them off the road.

If people are coming in from another Country and they get ripped off, they will not return. It’s essential to the economy of Notts that we give good value for what people pay.

Taxi companies in Nottingham are concerned by the events shown in the video that has been circulating around social media.

Junny, who works for Nottingham Cars said: “I felt really bad when I heard this story, it isn’t right. The driver has to be punished.

Most taxi drivers aren’t like this, so it was very sad to see. I hope it doesn’t make other drivers look bad.”

Gedling Borough Council currently licence around 900 taxi drivers and are launching a thorough investigation into the video that went viral.
