Nottinghamshire detectives investigating the murder of a 21-year-old man almost two years ago have released CCTV footage to find the killer.

A reward has been launched by Crimestoppers of £10,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person who murdered Aqib Mazhar in Forest Fields.

Aqib Mazhar died at the scene of the attack on Russell Road.

Aqib and a friend were travelling along Russell Road at around 8.30pm on June 1 2016 when a group of men travelling in three vehicles saw him and blocked his car.

In the CCTV footage, the men attack the vehicle with bars and knives and a man circled in red delivers the fatal blow to Aqib.

This man has never been held to account.

Detective Chief Inspector Rob Severn who is running the investigation said: “We have pursued all avenues available to us in order to catch this heartless killer.

“We are asking everyone to watch this video and please contact us if they think they have any information that could lead to identifying him.

“We know he is probably a young, local man and is probably part of the group who were jailed.

“You can contact Crimestoppers completely anonymously and you could be eligible for this cash reward.”

Hamza Omar Adam, 19, formerly of Berridge Road in Forest Fields, was jailed for seven years.

Aqib’s mum Shameem Akhtar still lives in the area and issued an emotional appeal to anyone with information earlier this month.

The family has been left devastated having never been able to get the closure they need.

City Chief Inspector Donna Lawton said: “This horrific incident highlights the devastating impact knife crime can have on families and their communities and we really hope someone comes forward as a result of this appeal.

“Carrying a knife is completely unacceptable and our knife crime team along with every other police officer will keep targeting this issue, removing any weapons they come across and proactively arresting those who possess one.”

If you have any information about the death of Aqib Mazhar, you are asked to call Notts Police on 101 quoting incident 820 of June 1 2016.
