A body found on Friday in Ollerton has been formally identified as missing man Stan Shanks.

Mr Shanks, 78, was found in woodland near the town on Friday after an extensive police search operation.

He had last been seen alive on Walesby Lane in the morning of April 29.

Although the body was believed to be that of Mr Shanks, he was not named officially by police until a formal identification process had been completed.

Stan’s son Terry released a statement on behalf of Mr Shanks’s family on Tuesday.

He said: “To the people of Ollerton, we would like to say a big, big thank you for your help and support.

“Stan was loved by all his family and friends and he will be sadly missed.”

He had earlier appealed for his father to return home as police, volunteers and specialist rescue teams scoured the area.
