A first time William Hill customer in Nottingham has placed £37,000 on Donald Trump to become the next President of the United States.

The unknown gambler initially put £15,000 on the Republican candidate to win at odds of 7/4 and then returned shortly after to place another bet of £22,000 at the same odds.

The bets were placed shortly before William Hill slashed the odds to 13/8 for a Trump win.

American voters will cast their votes on November 8 and results finalised by the early hours of the morning UK time on November 9.

Republican candidate Donald Trump and Democratic candidate Hilary Clinton have been battling in a series of fierce debates in New York, Missouri and Las Vegas throughout October and November.

The Washington Post, BBC and Fox News all have the candidates neck and neck at this point with a small lead for Hilary Clinton.

The statistical analysis media FiveThirtyEight have Hilary Clinton at 48.4 per cent and Donald Trump at 45.4 per cent in their polls prediction.

They predict Hilary Clinton as the winner with a 66.2 per cent chance of winning.
