Dougie Freedman’s Nottingham Forest continued their unbeaten run of form but fortunes were not so good for Notts County or Mansfield Town who both fell to defeats.
With County and Mansfield hovering close to their respective relegation zones in Leagues One and Two, defeats were not what they would have hoped for.
Here is what happened over the weekend’s football fixtures.
Forest took their third win in four under the reign of Dougie Freedman as they dispatched the manager’s former club, Bolton Wanderers, 4-1.
Chris Burke and Michail Antonio fired the hosts into an early 2-0 lead but a penalty from Adam Le Fondre just before half time brought Bolton back into the game.
However, the second half was a one-sided affair as Matt Mills was dismissed for the visitors and further goals from Henri Lansbury and Burke secured the 4-1 victory margin, moving Forest up to ninth in the Sky Bet Championship.
Notts County
County haven’t been fairing as well as neighbours Forest in recent weeks and their 2-1 loss to Fleetwood Town at the weekend means they have now lost five of their last six league games.
Garry Thompson gave the travelling County side an early lead within 11 minutes but from there it all went Fleetwood’s way, despite the home side ending the game with ten men.
Liam McAlinden levelled and David Ball scored the crucial goal in the 62nd minute before Fleetwood had to play the last 20 minutes with ten men when Stephen Crainey was sent off a second bookable offence.
Mansfield Town
Mansfield’s relegation worries deepened at the weekend as they lost 3-0 to fellow strugglers Oxford United, the home side going above The Stags in the process.
Alex MacDonald gave Oxford the lead on 31 minutes before bagging his second goal of the match just after half time.
Danny Hylton rounded off the victory with a penalty on 63 minutes which leaves Mansfield down in 19th position in League Two, just four points clear of the drop zone.
