Forest’s Andy Reid looking to Reading game after “all round poor performance”

Andy Reid is urging Forest fans to get behind their team as the Reds try to move on from Saturday’s three-nil home defeat to Brentford.

Some sections of the home support greeted the final whistle with booing on Saturday, after what Reid said was an “all-round poor performance”.

But Forest have another crack at giving Reid and head coach Paul Williams the first win of their reign on Tuesday when the side travels to Reading.

Saturday was a blip

Reid said: “There was a certain bit of booing – but I wouldn’t say they turned on us. The fans have been good all season, considering it was a pretty poor performance I don’t think the fans were too bad.

“We would just urge them to get behind us, we’re doing everything we can to get the players into the right positions, into the right shape, and to pick the right team to go and win games.

“Saturday was a blip, it was disappointing for everybody but we go again on Tuesday.”

And Reid stressed he believes the game is winnable, with Reading thirteenth in the Championship table – three places above Forest.

“They’re not a bad side – without being disrespectful to them I don’t think they are any better than us,” he added.

“It’ll probably be a tight game but we hope we come out on the right side of it.”

He added recovering striker Britt Assombalonga could feature in another under-21s game this week as he continues to build his fitness after more than a year out with a knee injury.

There had been hopes he would make the bench against Brentford on Saturday – but the club record signing is yet to feature as he continues his comeback.
