Real or imagined? Nottingham is awash with spooky stories – but what about when ‘ghosts’ are caught on camera?

There’s been some fascinating footage and pictures from across the county in recent years – some of it convincing, some of it best filed in the drawer marked ‘serve with a pinch of salt’.

Here we take a look at some of the best images. Have some of our Nottinghamshire ghosts revealed themselves?

1. Flying ghost

A Nottingham woman claimed to have captured a ghost on CCTV in August 2012.

Debate raged over what the figure actually was, with theories ranging from a moth to a hooded figure.

The couple who were responsible for the footage told the Huffington Post: “it’s a ghost, it’s got to be.”

2. Shot in the dark

A man in the Galleries of Justice took photographs in the pitch black, and it wasn’t until his visit ended that he looked back at the photos and saw a ghostly figure.

Chris Dilks told the Nottingham Post: “I have kept this picture on my camera for a while now as people, when they see it uploaded onto a computer, accuse me of fakery.”

And it seems as though the Galleries of Justice has more than one intrusive ghostly figure.

3. Ghost takes a perch

Also in August this year a woman took a photograph of what appears to be a ghost sitting down during a tour of the Galleries of Justice.

It was taken through the the wooden door that connects the caves and the dungeon.

Polina Perry told the Post: “You can see a face and his arms resting down on his knees as he is leaning against the wall.”

4. Figure passes a window

Four years ago, this video was captured at an unknown location in Nottinghamshire and uploaded to YouTube.

It is claimed a figure can be seen passing outside a window, which is on the second floor…..

5. Painting a picture

Yet another ghostly figure emerged at the Galleries of Justice in April this year.

A face (circled), cropped up on a photo during their tour.

Upon viewing the image, staff also agreed that there could be something in it, with deputy marketing manager Faye Rollinson saying: “I was looking on my phone so I zoomed in and you can see what looks like an old person’s face with sunken eye sockets and grey hair.”
