‘Howryur goin on youth?’: Nottinghamshire dialect chronicled and mapped online

‘Ey up mi duck’, ‘gerraht’ and ‘tarrah then’ are just some of the phrases Nottingham is renowned for.

But until now research into our local dialect has not been easy to find online.

Experts from both Nottingham universities have teamed up to create a project around the voices of Nottingham.

Prof Natalie Braber from Nottingham Trent University and Prof Nicola McLelland from the University of Nottingham have collected stories and recordings from dozens of local people.

Now part of the Nottingham Voices app and a website, the language of Notts and the tales behind the words can now be enjoyed online.

Sam Jones reports.
