January transfer window review: All Forest, County and Mansfield deals

This season’s winter transfer window was not the most spectacular – but it was nonetheless important for Forest, Notts County and Mansfield Town.

All three clubs were involved in last-minute ‘ins’ or ‘outs’ on the February 1 deadline, and a total of £175m was spent across the window overall.

The third most expensive signing of deadline day involved an ex-Forest target, Jordan Rhodes, who joined Middlesbrough from Blackburn.

Here’s what each of our clubs got up to in the 2015/16 January transfer window.

Forest-1

Nottingham Forest

In

Gary Gardner (loan, Aston Villa)

Bojan Jokic (loan, Villarreal)

Out

Chris Burke (loan, Rotheram)

Kyle Ebecilio (loan ended, FC Twente [then loaned to ADO Den Haag])

Deimantas Petravicius (loan, Stevenage)

Liam Trotter (loan ended, Bolton)

Jonny Williams (loan ended, Crystal Palace [then loaned to Milton Keynes Dons])

With this being, if all goes to plan, Nottingham Forest’s last transfer window under embargo, expect the Reds to be much busier than they were in this window.

In terms of players coming to the City Ground, Forest brought in Gardner and Jokic early in the window, with both deals being confirmed on January 8.

On deadline day, Forest tried desperately to end Ebecilio’s loan early in order to make room for a new signing, which they achieved, but it was too late in the day for Forest to consider bringing anyone in.

Notts County, Meadow Lane

Notts County

In

Scott Bennett (loan ended, Newport County)

Gary MacKenzie (loan, Doncaster)

Out

Jimmy Spencer (released)

Gill Swerts (released)

Not quite matching their levels of activity in the summer, Notts County were only involved in four deals this transfer window.

MacKenzie coming in and Swerts being released happened on deadline day with Notts County revealing before 7.00pm on deadline day that their business was done.

Another addition to the Notts County sphere on deadline day was the creation of a new Twitter account specifically for Brazilian Magpies.

Mansfield Town

In

Dan Alfei (loan, Swansea)

James Baxendale (free, Walsall)

Sean Kavanagh (loan, Fulham)

Out

Danny Fletcher (released)

Nicky Hunt (undisclosed fee, Leyton Orient)

Nathan Thomas (undisclosed fee, Hartlepool)

Mansfield Town were the most active team of the three on deadline day with two players coming into the team and one departing.

The permanent arrival of James Baxendale from Walsall, who was already playing for the Magpies on loan, happened with just under 45 minutes of the transfer window left.

Dan Alfei came in on loan from Swansea to the end of the season with Nicky Hunt leaving the club for Leyton Orient to join up with player-manager Kevin Nolan.
