Notts Says: Does Jeremy Corbyn need to know who Ant and Dec are?

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn caused a stir during a debate when he failed to identify television stars Ant and Dec.

Mr Corbyn faced party leadership challenger Owen Smith in the event, broadcast on the BBC and held at Nottingham Trent University.

After both answering questions on policy and the future of the party, both men were briefly tested on their general knowledge.

When shown a picture of the ITV duo, Mr Corbyn couldn’t name the Geordie presenters.

It prompted a debate around whether or not politicians need to be plugged in to popular culture to be successful leaders.

We asked some people in Nottingham if they could name the presenters and if it would matter to them if a party leader couldn’t.
