The Trust that runs King’s Mill and Mansfield Community hospitals has been taken out of special measures.

The CQC published a new report today rating Sherwood Forest Hospitals Trust’s (SFH) safety as ‘good’ and that it ‘requires improvement’ in terms of being a well-led service; both areas were previously rated as ‘inadequate.’

The new findings have boosted the overall rating of the Trust from ‘inadequate’ to ‘requires improvement.’

SFH has been in special measures since 2013 and was rated as ‘inadequate’ in a CQC report in October 2015.

We cannot stand still and there is yet more to be done

Chief executive of SFH Peter Herring said: “We deserve to celebrate today’s news and take this opportunity to reflect on everything they have contributed to improving the quality of care over the past year.

“However, we cannot stand still and there is yet more to be done.

“We want this Trust to be rated ‘outstanding,’ and our Board committed in this month’s public meeting to focusing on this over the next year.”

Following SFH’s merger with Nottingham University Hospitals Trust which runs the QMC and City Hospital being called off, Mr Herring says the two are still working together.

He said: “We remain committed to developing a strategic partnership with Nottingham University Hospitals.

“I would like to thank colleagues for their support over the past six months.

“Both parties have benefited from joint working and shared learning, and the excellent work of clinicians from both Trusts has helped support a number of the improvements we have made here at Sherwood Forest Hospitals.”

The CQC attended SFH unannounced across a three day period in July and inspected the Trust in line with two of their five areas.

An overview from the inspectorate said: “Patients received the correct treatment in a timely manner.

“We found patients’ care and treatment was planned and delivered in line with current evidence based guidance, standards, best practice and legislation.

“Outcomes for medical patients were mostly within expectations when compared with similar services.

“Patients’ symptoms of pain were suitably managed and staff were mostly proactive in assessing the patient’s nutrition and hydration needs.”
