Spending in this summer’s football transfer topped £1.175 billion and set a new record when the deadline passed at 11pm.

Nottingham Forest, Notts County and Mansfield Town were all in action on the final day of trading.

The Reds had money to spend after selling Oliver Burke for £13 million on Sunday.

And Notts County were thought to be interested in another signing – but someone may have needed to leave Meadow Lane first.

Mansfield Town also looked to bolster their squad after two injuries in the Checkatrade EFL Trophy defeat by Doncaster Rovers the day before (Tuesday August 30) the deadline.

15:54 Here’s the lowdown on new Nottingham Forest signing Licá; the 27 year old midfielder has signed for Nottingham Forest from Porto for a fee of around £300,000. After joining Porto in 2013, he made 25 appearances for the club and scored three goals. Last season he was loaned out to Vitoria Guimaraes, who play in Portugal’s top league called Primeira Liga, where he made 29 appearances scoring five goals. He also has one cap for his national side Portugal which was in a 3-1 friendly loss against Brazil in the US.

14:53 About Mustapha Carayol: the Gambian winger joins the Reds on a two year deal after his contract with Middlesbrough was cancelled by mutual consent. He signed for Boro in 2012 and made 50 appearances for the club scoring 11 goals. He was most recently loaned out to Leeds United where he made 12 appearances and scored one goal in the second half of last season. He has played for Gambia and has scored one goal in three appearances, which came when he earned his second cap against Mauritania in March this year.

14:46 About Nicolao Dumitru: the Italian striker is on loan at Forest from Napoli. Last season, he spent the season on loan at Serie B side Latina and scored seven goals in 34 appearances, the most amount of goals he has scored in a single season. The 24 year old has previously represented Italy at U19 and U20 level, with the striker scoring three goals in 19 appearances across both age groups.

Three Championship clubs, including Forest, are reportedly interested. The Sun, Mirror and Nottingham Post are saying Morrison is interested in the switch.

10:50 This is the second report saying Licá is on the verge of moving to Forest. He’s 27 and has one cap for Portugal. Previous clubs include La Liga side Rayo Vallecano.


10:41 And we have a more concrete one here for Forest fans. Portugese media say winger  Licá could be heading to Nottingham today to complete a move from Porto, where he has recently been farmed out on loan after a promising period with the Portugese giants.

10:20 At Notts County its already been one of the busiest windows of recent seasons – two players have left on free transfers and ten players have been released, with goalkeeper Roy Carroll the highest-profile name to be let go. But nine players have come in – all for free or on loan.

10:00 Worth remembering today is as much about who Forest keep hold of as sign. Britt Assombalonga has been linked with clubs including Aston Villa but Fawaz Al-Hasawi says the striker will not be sold.

09:41 Mustapha Carayol is a happy man after sealing his move to Forest – at Boro he had spent the last 18 months out on loan after a promising start on Teeside from 2012 – 2014 when he made 50 appearances and scored 13 goals. But a bad injury in March 2014 led to a spell on the sidelines and he forced to get himself back in contention once fit again.

09:31 Finally at Mansfield Town, a very organised and respectable transfer period could have a spanner in the works. Adam Murray did most of his business early – but last night Jamie McGuire and Kyle Howkins both picked up injuries in a loss to Doncaster in the Checkatrade EFL Trophy. The Stags may need to asses their fitness before deciding whether or not their dealings are done.

09:28 Notts County are also rumoured to be in the market for one other signing – probably on loan. But someone may need to leave the club first before a deal can be completed.

09:25 All this means it’s been a busy window already for Forest – but at least one more player is expected to arrive before the deadline tonight.

09:12 Almost immediately afterwards Nicolao Dumitru was confirmed as landing Trentside. He’s arrived on loan from Italian Serie A club Napoli and is a striker.


09:10 And last night there were two arrivals – chairman Fawaz Al-Hasawi said there would be three post-Burke. He first tweeted the arrival of Mustapha Carayol around 9pm last night. The winger has been signed for an undisclosed fee from Middlesbrough.

09:06 Let’s first look at Forest – where as usual by far the most cash is being splashed. After Oliver Burke’s controversial move to German club RB Leipzig on Sunday, the Reds, in theory, had £13 million to invest.
