Mark Cooper has left Notts County following the club’s 5-0 League Two home loss to Carlisle United on Saturday.

Cooper was appointed manager at Meadow Lane in March to replace Jamie Fullarton, who himself had only 69 days in charge.

The club announced in a statement on Saturday that Cooper had served notice he was leaving following the end of his short-term deal due to run to the end of the season – which had expected by many to be made permanent.

The statement read: “Whilst a points target was agreed to trigger the deal on enhanced terms, Cooper has decided to move on regardless of that points total being reached.

“Everyone at the club is hugely disappointed that the manager has taken this decision, but nevertheless would like to thank him for his hard work during his short tenure.”

According to reports, Cooper could soon be declared manager of National League side Forest Green Rovers.

The Magpies’ statement added: “It is understood that Cooper has received an offer from another club whilst still being contracted to Notts County. No contact or official approach for Cooper’s services has been received by the club.

“Notts will begin the search for a new Manager next week and a further announcement will be made in due course. The club will delay announcing their retain list in light of this unexpected development.

“The club will be making no further comment at this time.”
