Two men have been jailed for 14 years each after threatening security guards with a gun and knife in a terrifying Cinderhill robbery.

Mark Clarke and Ryan Taylor got away with a ‘substantial’ amount of cash when they attacked the two guards as they reloaded a cash machine at the Tesco Express petrol station on Nuthall Road.

Clarke 44, of Denewood Crescent, Bilborough, and Taylor, 30, of Elliotts End, Scraptoft, Leicestershire, were sentenced at Nottingham Crown Court on Friday.

Both had previously been convicted by a jury of conspiracy to commit robbery.

During the raid on January 28 last year both guards were forced to their knees, before one had a knife held to their throat and the other had the gun pointed at their head.

After putting cash into bags Clarke and Taylor ran away and sped off in a car.

Investigating police officers were able to link Clarke and Taylor with the raid using telecommunications evidence, after a mobile phone and SIM cards were recovered from the prison cell of an inmate at HMP Ranby two days before the robbery.

After the sentencing, Detective Sergeant Simon Harrison, of Notts Police, said: “We’re very pleased with the lengthy sentences given which reflect just how violent and nasty the robbery was. It was extremely fortunate the victims weren’t injured and I’d like to praise them for their bravery shown during this case.

“The safety of the public is of vital importance to us and now Clarke and Taylor are behind bars it makes Nottinghamshire a safer place to be.”
