National Bookstart Week is back in Nottinghamshire to get kids reading

Bookstart Week has come to Nottinghamshire to encourage children to develop a lifelong love of reading.

Nottingham City Council has backed the National scheme which is hoping to persuade children to start enjoying books from an early age.

Nottinghamshire youngsters will be able to get a free booklet of Giles Andreae’s ‘Rumble In the Jungle’ if they attend any of the National Bookstart Week events in local libraries.

Studies have shown that 10 minutes of reading a day can dramatically improve a child’s lifelong language, literacy and numerous skills.

There are different types of Bookstart packs you can get depending on the age of the child.

There is the Bookstart baby pack which is offered in a baby’s first year. A pre-school pack is offered when a child reaches the age of 3, and bear club is a free club available to babies, toddlers and preschoolers.

You can contact your local library or contact Nottingham Bookstart on 0115 915 0101 to find out more about the scheme and where you can get your packs.
